College Sports Jobs – Dir. of Development for Athletics

The Director of DevelopmentĀ for interscholastic sports works in consultation and close coordination with the Athletic Director on all matters. The Director of Development is responsible for developing, proposing, implementing, and overseeing a comprehensive fund development program in support of the university’s intercollegiate athletics program.

The director maintains an updated listing of prospects working with the Athletic Director, team coaches, department personnel, university advancement marketing, as well as athletics marketing and volunteers; devises effective donor strategies and recognition opportunities; identifies and cultivates major gift donors and alumni contacts; and is responsible for direct solicitation and stewarding of established donors.

Administrative responsibilities include:

  • Submission of annual development plans with priority fund-raising goals, devised in consultation with the Athletic Director
  • Regular meeting attendance
  • Arranging frequent donor meetings and contact encounters for the Athletic Director and coaches, ensuring the timely filing of contact reports
  • Supervising support staff in the performance of development work

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Major gift fund-raising
  • Coordination of donor cultivation activities and special fund-raising events;
  • Assisting in recruitment of corporate sponsors
  • Coordination of gift processing, donor acknowledgments, and accurate record keeping relating to athletics gifts.

Qualifications. Bachelor’s degree required. Recommended at least two years of Division 1 intercollegiate athletics facility operations or experience preferred. The position requires some knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.

Salary Range. For this position is $40,000-$65,000 as an entry-level position for athletic administration.
