Sports Journalism – Objectivity Always

‘Cheering is not allowed in the press box.’

It is a place of work and those in there doing their jobs must be allowed to work in a professional environment. A clear line must be drawn between performing the duties and tasks of the job and being a fan of your favorite team, which is being covered. The work comes first, above and beyond all else in the sports industry. This is no different in sports media, especially because of the access points media are granted.  Broadcasters and journalists should remain objective within the contexts of their jobs. Enthusiasm or distaste of a certain team or athlete cannot cloud one’s ability to report the facts surrounding what is being covered.

Yes, the media is allowed to freely express its opinion but it must be accomplished within the context of one’s role within the media.
