College Sports Jobs – Sports Information Director (SID)

The Director for Sports Media is often known as a Sports Information Director at smaller institutions or even the Associate Athletic Director for Communications.

In Focus: SIDs Behind the Scenes

The SID or Media Director:

  • Provides media relations support for the intercollegiate teams, including writing press releases, media guides, and game recaps
  • Acts as a liaison with local and national media
  • Writes feature stories for publications
  • Updates the department’s web site
  • Compiles team statistics
  • Provides administrative support, including the processing of purchase and payment requests.

Qualifications. Bachelor’s in journalism, communications or a related field; minimum two years’ previous experience in athletics communications; strong verbal and written communication skills; good understanding of applicable NCAA rules. Often this position has been designated as sensitive and may require a criminal background check.

SID Salary Range. For this position is $35,000-$45,000 as an entry level position for athletic administration.

People in SID jobs work their tails off and the pay is on the low end of college sports jobs. But turnover tends to be very low!
